Zebulon
Tier 3
Summary
Bottom Line – Striving hard to stay true to a point in time is really cool but the brewery itself isn’t too exciting to visit.
Zebulon Artisan Ales is one of the two breweries we went to that were a decent distance from downtown Asheville. Because it is located in Weaverville, we managed to squeeze it in after doing an amazing zip line (shout out to Navitat!). There seem to be quite a few people in the online beer community who felt this may be better than any brewery in Asheville proper. Needless to say, my expectations were very high. It was clear that they took their craft seriously. There were some really really interesting styles and they match the style to the year that it is intended to mirror. Some very beer hipster stuff going on. I love doing interesting things, but of the six beers I tried, I didn’t think anything was better than good. The bartender was really nice, but the place itself wasn’t really. I am not too fancy. I will drink beer anywhere, but when we are comparing breweries, this one just wasn’t as nice and didn’t have as much to offer from a location and setting standpoint. Next time in town, I may try to get my hands on a bottle at a store, but that’s probably the extent.
